Over the last few years, well many years really I’ve done a lot of day ticket fishing on quite a number of different waters.
One water in particular is the reservoirs in London, I have fished the reservoirs since I was near knee-high to a grasshopper really and one the biggest edges I’ve always found on this water is they do love a bit of bait to get their teeth into.

I remember speaking to a couple of lads on the gate before the session and I remember them saying “all the fish are coming out on single hook baits”, this presented an opportunity for me so I spombed out about 11 Kilo of Nutcracker! We had some real funny looks from the rest of the anglers but five bites later my plans had paid off.
I think with day ticket fisheries that are heavily stocked the fish are always hungry so it makes sense to feed them. The only time I might pull back is if every angler is spombing in Ten kilos each, that’s when the fish may behave a little different so I may look at a single bait with a stringer for example and try and cause less commotion in the water.
Another well-known day ticket lake is Christchurch a beautiful lake down in Oxfordshire that also responds really well to heavy baiting. I haven’t fished it many times but when I have done the runs came over a real big bed of bait. Urban now has a big group of anglers who regularly use our bait just on the back of those sessions down there! The proof is in the pudding as they say and fish like this one landed by Lewis Holland just shows you what is achievable.
